Everyone’s* Olympics

August 18, 2010

A London 2012 Olympics merchandise store has opened in St. Pancras station.
The sign at the entrance says that they are ‘proud to accept only visa’.

Why?

Who does this work for?
What an unbelievably stupid idea to be proud of.

Apart from anything else, the slogan is grammatically incorrect: it should surely say ‘proud to only accept visa’.  But maybe saying it that way makes the statement sound as ridiculous as it is. Asking people who don’t have a visa card to pay with cash is hardly going to make them want a visa card. It also does nothing for people who have a Visa card – unless they take pleasure from knowing that other people don’t have something that they do. And besides if your friend wants to buy something and they don’t have a Visa card, as a Visa card holder – you’ll probably have to pay for them.

Quite frankly this kind of thing will just generally encourage people to  hate the Olympics.

Get as many people together as possible, make sure they all have non-Visa credit cards, and send to the shop to form a never-ending queue of people to knock back… that might get someone’s attention

Pretty sure the ‘only’ is in the right place as it stands. It’s only Visa that they accept.
